Teaching

The most influential people in my life have been teachers, from high school through graduate school. I believe education is a fundamental part to bring about change in our world, for the better. My first teaching experience was as an undergraduate student in broadcast journalism on how to produce and edit sound and film for newscasts. As a master's student in political science, I mentored new graduate students in the MA program and offered guidance on navigating the department and broader university.  I also served as an advisor to undergraduate students in political science, as well as directed a class of undergraduate junior fellows to conduct research with a faculty member.

Crucial to my teaching philosophy is engaging students with different kinds of media and topics in the classroom that relate to their own experiences outside school. I treat students as teachers themselves whom I may learn from, as each student brings with them a wealth of ideas, creativity, and experience. I challenge my students to think and write more critically and to use their own voices in their work, especially for a discipline like international relations. My goal is to help students from all backgrounds  discover their own potential to critically and creatively research and write about topics in global politics that interest them. I mentor and help each student inside and outside the classroom so they may have a positive learning experience and reach their own goals.
